Queen’s - Greg Hulse Soccer Memorial

May 30th, 2008 gordl

The Queen’s University Men’s and Women’s Varsity Soccer teams along with the local High Schools, will hold the 3rd Annual Queen’s - Greg Hulse Soccer Memorial on May 31, 2008 in memory of Greg Hulse. Senior Girls and Boys High School All-Star Games will be played in memory of Greg Hulse who was a member of both Holy Cross High School and Queen’s University Varsity Soccer Teams. Greg died tragically in a car accident in June of 2005.

Game times will be 1PM for the Senior Boys and 3PM for the Senior Girls in Richardson Stadium. In addition to honouring Greg’s memory and local athletes, monies will be raised to support an Athletic Financial Award for a future student athlete on the varsity soccer team. The event also hopes to raise awareness of a charity that Greg strongly supported, the Jamaica Mission.

Event Chairman Al MacVicar stated “Greg was a truly remarkable young man. He had a positive impact on both his coaches and teammates. We are thrilled that we are able to honour him by showcasing a game that he loved to play. The event has been very well received over the last 2 years and we are looking forward to another great day of soccer action on the 31st of May”.

Three to four players will be selected to participate in the game from each high school team. The teams from KASSAA will be split into a north and a south division and be coached by HS coaches. On the morning of the games, the all-star teams will participate in light training sessions that will be conducted by Queen’s and HS coaches as well as varsity soccer players from the men’s and women’s programs at Queen’s. Last year saw over 80 local athletes participate in tightly contested events. Practice sessions for ALL teams will run from 10-11 am on May 31, 2008 at Lasalle High School.

Admission to games will be $5 for adults, $3 for high school students and $2 for children between ages 5-12. Children under 5 will be admitted free of charge. Tickets can be purchased at the Physical Education Centre Wickets (69 Union St.) or can be purchased at the gate the day of the games.

In addition to 2 great All-Star matches, there will also be two 50-50 draws and other raffles for replica jerseys.

Please come out and support the local soccer talent on May 31 and pay tribute to a person who touched the lives of everyone he met. His compassionate character, his tenacious spirit, his will to compete, and his sportsmanship will be remembered forever.
